A new documentary, titled ‘Netumbo: A Leader Beyond Politics’, depicts the life and leadership path of Namibia’s first female President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The documentary tells the story of her journey from humble beginnings in Onamutai village to leading Namibia’s liberation movement and becoming the country’s Head of State.

The documentary, rich in history and emotion, pays tribute to her lifelong dedication to Namibia’s freedom, nation-building and the empowerment of women.

The premiere was held at Ster-Kinekor, Grove Mall on Thursday night, where Nandi-Ndaitwah was accompanied by Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko, as well as family members, friends and people from all walks of life.

The Head of State said she was initially uncomfortable when the project began in 2022.

She reflected on seeing her life story unfold on screen.

“I don’t do things for myself. I do them for other people. The fact that this documentary covers Namibia’s liberation war is something our youth need to know, which makes me glad about it. They will be empowered as a result,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said the film’s emphasis on the bravery of young Namibians who joined the fight moved her.

“We were prepared to die to free our nation. I am really happy to see that journey captured,” remarked the President.

She noted that supporting the country’s creative sector is essential for both social and economic growth.

“We all rely on the creative industry just as we do on agriculture. It tells the world about our country, fosters innovation and creates jobs,” she said.

The President highlighted Namibia’s excellent production settings and shared her idea for the country to become its own film city.

“Namibia can become a creative hub, sharing our culture and stories beyond our borders, if we invest in this sector,” she stated.

First Gentleman Lieutenant General (Rtd) Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah said it was a touching moment.

“History is being written. You don’t intend to leave a legacy, but you do leave one by your deeds,” he said.

He disclosed that it was an emotional milestone to watch her being sworn in on 21 March.

The film, produced by Joe Vision Production House in collaboration with MultiChoice, will be made available for public viewing on 29 October 2025.
