RUNDU – Skeletal remains of a mother and child discovered on Saturday at Gcaruhwa village in Musese constituency, Kavango West region will need to be tested scientifically to get accurate identity.
The remains were discovered by a villager who alerted fellow villagers and the headman of the village, who then informed the Namibian Police.
“The human skeletons of an adult person and of a child, were found by a cattle herder. The family who had lost a relative had identified the skeletons based on clothes found at the scene as being that of Annastasia Mbunze Hausiku and her one year old son only identified as Mapeu,’’ said Kavango West Namibian police spokesperson, chief inspector Raimert Muronga.
Muronga said it is alleged that the deceased left home at the beginning of August 2025, going to the Gcaruhwa clinic and that was the last time she was seen or heard from by the family. Muronga said no case of missing person was reported in their area and surroundings or by the deceased family and the police has since advised the family to do so with immediate effect.
As the particulars of the deceased cannot be reliably identified at the moment, forensic and DNA tests will be conducted for accurate determination.
