The Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group announced that it will sell its shares in Cleanergy Solutions Namibia to H₂Infra NV, a company that is part of the international clean energy leader, CMB.TECH.
O&L currently owns 51% of Cleanergy.
Once approved by the Namibian Competition Commission, H₂Infra NV will become the sole owner of Cleanergy Solutions Namibia.
Cleanergy Solutions Namibia is located near Walvis Bay and specialises in producing green hydrogen, a clean fuel generated using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.
Sven Thieme, executive chairman of the O&L Group, stated that CMB.Tech is renowned worldwide for its work in clean fuels and hydrogen technology.
With its international experience and investment capacity, the company is expected to help Cleanergy grow and take on an even larger role in Namibia’s transition to clean and sustainable energy.
“As O&L, we are immensely proud of our role in co-founding Cleanergy and laying the cornerstone of Namibia’s green hydrogen future. This milestone reflects our longstanding purpose of creating a future where we enhance life and our commitment to pioneering industries that empower Namibia’s economy and enable sustainable, future-ready opportunities,” he said.
He added that the establishment of Cleanergy Solutions Namibia marked a historic step in the country’s journey toward developing a green hydrogen economy.
As a founding shareholder, O&L played a pivotal role in conceptualising, developing and commissioning the Hydrogen Dune pilot project in Walvis Bay, a first for Namibia and the region.
CMB.TECH expressed appreciation to O&L for their foundational contributions and collaborative spirit throughout the joint venture.
“As we assume full ownership, we want to reassure all stakeholders that Cleanergy’s plans and projects will continue as planned. Our commitment to local impact, environmental responsibility and innovation remains unwavering. With a growing team of employees, we are eagerly looking forward to the next project phases, including ammonia production, storage, berthing and pipeline development,” they said.
In September, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare inaugurated Namibia’s first green hydrogen production and refueling facility.
Developed by Cleanergy Solutions Namibia, a strategic partnership between the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group and the diversified maritime group CMB Tech, the project marks a significant milestone in Namibia’s goal to become an African logistics and energy hub.
Powered by a solar-powered, off-grid electrolyser, the facility produces green hydrogen and serves as a refuelling station for hydrogen-powered vehicles and industrial uses.
It also hosts a Hydrogen Academy, which will train Namibians in hydrogen technologies and develop local expertise in this emerging sector.
Locally produced hydrogen is already being used in road transport through dual-fuel trucks, in agriculture with dual-fuel tractors and in power generation with a monofuel hydrogen genset.
