The police in the Ohangwena region are investigating a case in which a 16-year-old girl with disabilities was allegedly raped by a 33-year-old man.
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi in the weekend crime report said the incident occurred on Friday at Omufitu-wekuta village in the Eenhana district.
“The suspect allegedly found the victim home alone, took her to the bush, and raped her,” said Shikwambi.
The suspect has been arrested and police investigations into the matter continue.
In another incident, the police in the Omusati region are investigating a case in which another 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 23-year-old man.
According to Shikwambi, the incident took place on Friday near Uutsathima Combined School in the Okahao constituency. The suspect was arrested and investigations continue.
In the Oshana region, a 38-year-old woman died on the spot after she was allegedly stabbed with a knife by a 36-year-old Angolan man.
“The victim was stabbed in the neck and stomach and further assaulted with a cooking stick,”
said Shikwambi.
The suspect has been arrested and police investigations continue.
In an unrelated matter, a 32-year-old man was seriously injured when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle in Otjomuise, Windhoek, early Saturday morning, one of several crimes reported in the Khomas region over the weekend.
According to the weekend crime report, the incident occurred around 03h55 in Mersin Street. It is alleged that the suspect argued with the victim before using his vehicle to hit him, then reversed and drove away.
“The victim sustained fractures on both legs and was admitted to the hospital. No arrest has been made yet,” Shikwambi said, adding that investigations are continuing.
In another case, two men were arrested at the Windhoek-Okahandja checkpoint at midnight on Friday after police discovered 1 935 grams of cannabis concealed in sugar and flour bags. The drugs are valued at N$96 750.
“The suspects, aged 22 and 41, are expected to appear in court soon,” Shikwambi confirmed.
In Klein Windhoek, two separate incidents were reported on Friday and Saturday. In the first, a robbery victim was assaulted and robbed of property worth N$19 650, including a laptop and cellphone. No arrests were made. In the second, the suspect smashed a Samsung Galaxy A32 cellphone valued at N$8 000 during an argument and was arrested for malicious damage to property.
Police also recorded a case of theft from a motor vehicle at a café in Eros on Friday morning, where a spare tyre valued at N$8 000 was stolen from a vehicle. The suspects remain at large.
Shikwambi reminded the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, especially during late-night hours and at entertainment spots.
“NamPol will continue with visible patrols and targeted operations to curb weekend criminal activities in the Khomas region,” she said.
