Cricket Namibia bid farewell yesterday to the women’s team, Capricorn Eagles, ahead of their departure to Thailand for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy scheduled to take place from 18 November to 1 December 2025.
The competition is a T20 International tournament designed to boost the growth of women’s cricket among emerging associate member nations, where countries ranked between 12th and 19th compete in a rotational quadrangular series.
The competition will feature eight teams from the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Tanzania, Uganda, and Namibia.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony yesterday, Cricket Namibia CEO, Johan Müller, referred to Namibia’s participation as a privilege and expressed his excitement to see the team perform.
“We look forward to seeing how the team performs in this competition. It is not only a privilege to compete, but also ideal for countries to compete against teams ranked higher than themselves. We believe that the hard work put in by the team in the past months will ensure a good performance,” Müller said.
Head coach, Francois van der Merwe, said his team has prepared effectively for this competition and they see the competition as an opportunity to better their world ranking points and to further prepare for next year’s global qualifiers taking place in Nepal in January.
The Capricorn Eagles expressed their enthusiasm for the competition, saying it will enable the team to test their skills and to help them grow for future competitions.
