Man arrested for murder of aunt

ONGWEDIVA – A 29-year-old man was arrested by Ohangwena police yesterday afternoon at Onamahoka village for the alleged murder of his aunt and for having seriously injured a neighbour at Omunyekadi village in Ohangwena region.

According to police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the deadly attack occurred on Monday around 17h00 at the house where the accused and his victims lived in the Ondobe area.

Shikwambi said the suspect, who reportedly has mental illness, fatally attacked Olivia Ndateelela Teofelus (40) with a machete several times, causing her death instantly. 

The two women approached the suspect and confronted him over a suspected stolen goat, whose carcass was found in his room under his bed.

“The two family members were worried and wanted to know where he stole the goat. That might have angered him, causing the horrific attack. The suspect has been on the run,” revealed the deputy commissioner.

The neighbour was rushed to Eenhana state hospital in a critical condition.

Teofelus’ next of keen were informed and police investigations continue.

Other information availed to New Era was that the suspect has a history of assaulting his relatives, and stealing goats and chickens for consumption.
