Black Dice Salaam’s journey with Canvas of Sounds began as a simple idea that grew into something much larger. The early stages of the project were purely experimental and an opportunity for him to explore, allowing the project to evolve. “It began with a few melodies and ideas, but as I kept recording, the project grew naturally. Every studio session added new colours, emotions and layers.”
Although Salaam started the process with a vision, the final outcome surpassed anything he had originally planned. The project deepened as his experience with life deepened, with collaborators adding new textures into the mix, “It turned out even better than I imagined. I had a plan in the beginning, but working with different producers and going through real-life experiences shaped the project into something richer, deeper and more emotional.”
One of his most complicated tracks to create, he said, was ‘Mwameme’, this song inspired Salaam to expand emotionally and artistically, pushing him to deliver his truth. He shares, “I wanted every line, every melody, and every vocal layer to feel real and powerful.” Apart from this, songs that hold a special place in his heart for different reasons, are ‘Bad Girl’, Salaam adds, “it carries a strong, addictive vibe, while ‘Make a Move’ brings a smooth, uplifting energy.”
The album’s specific identity was shaped by a carefully chosen team of collaborators whose chemistry with Salaam strengthened the overall album. He explains, “I chose producers based on understanding, and their ability to bring out the best in my sound.” From different creators such as Bexxa Carter to Uncle V, each producer added a layer to the project.
Salaam describes it as an exploration of love, culture, faith, joy, struggle, reflection and personal growth. When asked about the love he received, this is what he had to say, “The response has been incredible, many listeners are saying it feels like one of my strongest and most complete albums. I want listeners to feel inspired, uplifted and connected.”
