KEETMANSHOOP – Swapo Party chairperson of leaders assigned to //Kharas region, Lucia Witbooi, has urged party members in the region to serve their communities with dedication, total commitment, with only one aim, one voice echoing unity.
She made the call at the party’s regional executive committee meeting on Saturday.
“In unity is strength and we all know that if we are united we can easily overpower any opposition, like the slogan we use during the challenging times of the struggle, ‘united we stand divided we fall’. Let us join hands and stand together, as one strong united force and move towards the progress of the party,” she said.
Witbooi said Swapo party members in the region should rise up, be visible, stand up, stand firm and not be moved by any rootless mushrooming parties.
“As we fought united without racial segregation against the then apartheid South Africa regime, let us root out racial discrimination and tribalism that is fragmenting the party at large and has caused the poor performance of the party during the presidential and national elections especially in //Kharas region,” she stressed.
The chairperson further urged the regional leaders to select candidates that have development of people and service delivery at heart to compete for the upcoming regional and local authority elections in November this year.
“Do not be guided by familiarity to select friends, family and acquaintances, rather choose candidates who are good, compassionate listeners, who will recognise challenges facing our communities and come up with workable solutions in order to service and deliver to the region and the nation with dedication and commitment,’ said Witbooi.
The meeting aimed for the introduction of the national leaders assigned to the region to the regional executive committee and for regional leadership to discuss the modalities for the party’s internal primary elections.
The other leaders assigned to the region are Mines and energy minister Tom Alweendo, Defence minister Peter Vilho, Member of Parliament Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, Helaria Mukapuli and Laurencia Stephanus, who are both members of the central committee.
