Another star-studded second edition of the Rumble in the City is headed to the coast next weekend. This time, it is themed “Ma/Gaisa Rumble at the Coast.”
Sendelly !Gonteb, who is part of the organising committee, told VIBEZ! that preparations have been going very well, as this time they plan on hosting a Sunday edition.
“The response from the coastal areas has been massive. Ma/Gaisa has its roots along our coastline, which has added even more flavour to the event. It’s been over 10 years since an event of this magnitude has been hosted in Swakopmund, so all in all, the public is hugely excited,” he said.
!Gonteb said the first edition, held in the capital, was a huge success, prompting them to host the final edition in Swakopmund.
“The Rumble in the City (Windhoek Version) was a huge success, with an overwhelming level of positive feedback from a lot of entities. That prompted us to take the concept to the coast to celebrate the upcoming festive period with our Ma/Gaisa Music Lovers,” he said.
“Music culture is a very important aspect in our country. If we do not take care of it while we can, future generations will only have heard of it instead of experiencing it,” he added.
The founder of Hoadadi Trading, the company behind this initiative, said Ma/Gaisa has certainly jump-started again.
“Artists are in and out of studios working hard to release new material. From the lineup, half of the artists will release new material at the event. Ma/Gaisa really is back with a loud bang,” he emphasised.
For the coastal edition, the organisers are putting in more effort, as it will not be held only on 20 December; a special edition on Sunday, 21 December, is also planned.
“For an event of this magnitude, it would be unfair just to have a once off one day event. So, since it’s the festive period, we have decided to add an official All-White Edition after party of the ‘Rumble at the Coast’, which will take place the following day (Sunday 21st December) at Tama Beer Garden in Swakopmund. Here we are expected to have live performances from the legendary and iconic Matongo Family together with Dixon,” he shared.
Regarding sponsors and getting companies to get involved, !Gonteb said the business community has not been as cooperative as expected.
“We reached out to a few entities and individuals, especially in the coastal areas, but have to this point not been able to get sponsorships for the event,” he concluded.
Music lovers can expect an array of songs from the likes of Raphael & Pele vs Tbozz and Staika, they will be supported by Jaliza, Kalux, Ou Stakes, Pule, Desiree, Lorenda, Max King, Marvtown, and Perciano.
The live band for the event will be Petru and Friends.
