The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed the arrest of a former human resources officer at the Otavi Town Council, Erenst Gaoab, on allegations of corruption.
According to the ACC in a statement on Monday, Gaoab was acting as CEO and allegedly promoted himself to the position of manager of human resources, a role not provided for in the council’s approved organisational structure.
The arrest was carried out on 23 March 2026 and Gaoab has since been formally charged under Section 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, which relates to the corrupt use of office or position for gratification, the statement added.
He was granted bail of N$10 000 and is expected to appear before the Regional Court in Otjiwarongo on 12 May 2026.
The ACC reiterated its commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability in public institutions, warning that corruption undermines governance, erodes public trust and disrupts effective service delivery.
Investigations into the matter continue.
