Classic Fashion Namibia designer, Mc Bright Kavari, who presented his collection at the African Fashion Reception in Adis Abab, Ethiopia, last week says the organisers of the event were impressed with his collection.

McBright shared his Adis Ababa experience upon his from Ethiopia this week saying his collection came out at a first place. “Although this was not more like a competition, my collection was outstanding and by the look of things, other designers and quests were also impressed since they were praising my works,” he says. He adds that this was a great exposure for him since he got an opportunity to mingle and network with other designers as well. “I can see African designers are working together to uplift the fashion industry and for me this is a very big opportunity to learn from others,” he says.

The event was organised by African Union Commission and McBright joined other top designers from 30 African countries, whereby he showcased a combination of male and female collections, representing Namibia’s landscapes. The African Fashion Reception is a Pan African initiative. This year’s event gathered fashion designers, dignitaries, diplomatic envoys and media from over 30 African countries, in a celebration of cultural diversity expressed through the fashion discipline with the proud theme, “Africa is the New Inspiration of Global Fashion.”

The aim of the event was to build bridges by creating free trade and partnerships among fashion practitioners throughout the African continent and attract global attention to Africa’s very rich and diversified dress culture, which can be explored as a catalyst for the social economic growth of the continent’s garment/textile industry to mention a few. McBright says fashion lovers must watch out for his next fashion show themed, ‘Mixed and Match’ featuring Mellissa Poulton, at the Protea Hotel Thüringerhof at the end of this month. He will re-showcase his collections that he showcased in Addis Ababa. He has invited one of the top world models, Pius Okaba, who will be training and teaching models who will be showcasing his collections on how to model.
