To celebrate Music Month, MultiChoice Namibia hosted a media gathering for DStv and Gotv at the MutiChoice offices last Thursday.
The aim was to encourage Namibian artists and music producers to engage and use these platforms to showcase their music videos to the African audience.

The media were given the opportunity to have a live Skype Q&A session with exceutives of the recently launched DStv Channel TRACE Africa, who explained how Namibian artists can get their music videos onto the channel. Senior vice president for TRACE Southern Africa, Leo Manne, joined the session, which served as a meet-and-greet platform as well as a learning exercise for all.

General Manager of MultiChoice Namibia Roger Gertze said: “MultiChoice Namibia’s purpose is to enrich the lives of Namibians, and one of our key objectives is to ensure that we bring our viewers relevant content that they can connect with. Our platforms offer over eight music channels to cater for everyone’s tastes and we hope to see an increase in Namibian content on these channels to show the continent the best that Namibia has to offer.”

TRACE Africa will serve as the premiere destination for African music lovers, featuring videos of the best contemporary African music hits as well as exclusive specials and documentaries. From Kwaito, Hip Hop and House to Coupé-Décalé, from Afro-pop and Rumba to Ndombolo, TRACE Africa has them all! This channel will offer viewers the biggest hits and music videos from established and emerging artists from various African countries.

Currently TRACE Africa has featured videos from Namibian artist The Dogg, with his hit ‘Bye’. Namibian pop queen Sally has also been trending on the channel with the video of her hit single ‘Natural’ as well Dice with the song Botsotso. Also featured is Young T since the channel launched on September 1.

TRACE Urban provides the best urban television content and contemporary music from all over the world. Namibian artists such as Gazza and Black Vulcanite have featured on TRACE Urban.

MTV Base is an urban music channel, playing only the very best in R&B, Hip Hop, Kwaito and Dancehall. MTV Base is synonymous with what urban music represents. MTV Base is prolific at breaking new artists, highlighting new trends, delivering hot showbiz news and showcasing all developments in the international and local music scenes. Targeted at youth with the rhythm of Africa in their soul, Channel O is renowned for its ability to bring home the hottest musical programming from across the continent. Namibian artists such as Gazza, The Dogg, Damara Dik Ding and Gal Level have all had their music videos featured on Channel O.
