The National Assembly of the Parliament of Namibia will resume its Fourth Session of the 6th Parliament tomorrow. During the upcoming National Assembly session various bills are expected to be finalised.
The legislature will discuss bills referred to the National Council (NC) that have since been considered by the NC and referred back to the National Assembly (NA) with amendments. The bills include the Long-Term Insurance Amendment Bill, Short-Term Insurance Amendment Bill, Medical Aid Funds Amendment Bill and Unit Trusts Control Amendment Bill.
During its Third Session (February 9 to July 28), the House debated and passed, amongst others, the Appropriation Bill, Presidential Remuneration and other Benefits Amendment Bill, Credit Agreements Amendment Bill, Business and Intellectual Property Authority Bill, Namibia Investment Promotion Bill and the Anti-Corruption Amendment Bill.
These Bills have already been signed into law by President Hage Geingob and have been gazetted as Acts of Parliament. The House also dealt with the Namibian Citizenship Amendment Bill and the Liquor Amendment Bill, which were referred to the National Council for review before the Assembly went on recess on July 28.
The Citizenship Amendment Bill was, however, rejected by the National Council, while the Liquor Amendment Bill was referred by the National Council to its Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Economy for further public consultations.
The committee is expected to conduct public hearings on the Liquor Amendment Bill in the regions from September 16.
