The Khomas Boxing Federation (KBF) held its regional championship at an afterschool centre in Katutura, Windhoek last weekend with more than 80 boxers from eight clubs in the Khomas Region in attendance.

KBF applauded DHC Construction, Redi Bites Meat market, OTB Sports and the staff of the Ministry of Gender at the centre for their support in contributing the successful hosting of the championship.

Martin IIlwenya from the Soweto Boxing Club was voted best junior boxer and Gerald du Ploy got the nod ahead of his peers for the Most Improved Junior Boxer award.

Theodor Nuuyoma from the revered Sunshine Boxing Club was voted best senior boxer of the tourney while 21BDF ‘s Charles Shinima was the proud recipient of the Most Improved Senior Boxer award.

The Overall Best Team award went to Sunshine Boxing Academy, with Petrus Kashango voted Overall Best Official on the night.
“It’s very disheartening to note that the National Boxing Federation could not support us in any way to host our championship, since they’re supposed to have an obligation to support regional structures, “ read a statement from the KBF.With the 2020 Olympics in sight, KBF is said to be working around the clock to have a strong showing at the multi-sports global showpiece and has undertaken to keep its boxers active, while rendering technical support in preparation for the next Olympics.

The two teams to represent Khomas Region at the upcoming national championship are follows.
Juniors: Negodhi Evastus, Martin Iilwenya, Eliphas Shailemo, Immanuel Nghilongwa, David Shoombe, Romeo Shilunga, Fillipus Shimbundilwa and Gerald Du Plooy.

Seniors: Theodor Nuuyoma, Hianja Hamaujanda, Frederich Nghitenanye, Sam Mathew, Jason Bernarud, Alfeus Shaanika, Bernard Bernard and Zesora Tjipe.
