Local beauty Dorcas ‘Deizzy’ Mbevo has been selected to represent Namibia at the 11th annual competition of Miss Africa United States of America (USA) to be hosted in Washington DC in November.

This is not for the first time Deizzy is representing the country at international level, having particpated in high-profile beauty competitions, such as Miss Commonwealth International and Miss Global International.

Deizzy, who couldn’t hide her excitement, described the pagaent as a big opportunity for her modelling aspirations.
According to a report on the pageant, the competition is ready to hit the American capital to showcase Africa’s cultural heritage in all its beauty and its best. “Plans are underway for the grand showcase involving all 54 nations that make up the continent of Africa. The show will feature African traditional dance from each country, a parade of nations, public speaking, advocacy and interviews, an African fashion parade, talent showcase, evening gown parade and live performances and great entertainment,” reads the report.
Deizzy was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and raised in Namibia.

She is known by fellow Namibian models to have a fiery personality and for being determined, focused and a generous philanthropist.
She completed her schooling at Khomas High School and was a registered student at the International University of Management (IUM), where she pursued studies in HIV/AIDS management.

She now resides in the Florida in the USA, where she is undertaking studies in criminal justice at Florida Technical College.
Deizz’s modelling journey started at the age of 19 years and she has since won many accolades.

From 2011 to 2014, while living in Windhoek, she won Miss Youth Namibia 2013, staged by the National Youth Council, Miss IUM 2014 and also modelled for the Namibian Diamond Show organised by Hem Matsi.

Apart from that, she also acted in Namibia’s youthful drama series, ‘Don’t Kiss and Tell’.
Throughout the years, as many will testify, she has been an advocate of “giving without expectations”. She initiated several charitable causes and donated to needy families and children.

Being miles from Namibia did not stop her from starting an online non-profit organisation, called The Heart of Deizzy Foundation, that focuses on promoting education amongst underprivileged children and extending a helping hand to families who need it most
“It takes a village to raise a child and to change our society, let us be that village,” she says.
