Sylvia Moureen Muashekele has been a FNB employee since August 1989 and last month celebrated 27 years at the bank. She started her banking career at the Oshakati branch and has been a branch manager for the past eight years. She is managing the two branches of Ondangwa and Omuthiya with a staff complement of 57 employees and a population of more than 50 000 inhabitants in the towns and surrounding areas and villages.

“The communities where these branches are located give so much more than one can ask from customers because of their loyalty and support. Most of our customers have been banking with us for more than 40 years.”

Muashekele adds that one of the biggest challenges in her area is the fact that most of the banking customers are either pensioners or illiterate, which makes it very hard for them to adapt to new banking systems and trends, especially the convenient e-channels.

“We are trying to overcome this through constant customer education with the help of my friendly and focused staff members, and slowly but surely we are seeing results while still remaining a brick and mortar bank for all our customers that feel most comfortable within a bank,” said Muashekele.

She said that customers value FNB Namibia and for many – especially the younger generation – the fact that the numerous self-service systems provide them with access to their money whenever and wherever they need it, is a bonus.

“Together with FNB Namibia all of us in the North are striving for the best banking services and products for all Namibians. We also strive to support deserving projects in our community through the FNB Foundation on all levels – from people to education, health and the planet as a whole.”
