MultiChoice Namibia capitalised on the official opening of its new-look branch in Swakopmund to celebrate the television entertainment provider’s 19-year track record of enriching lives in the Erongo Region by way of investment in the local economy and corporate social responsibility efforts.
Through its Swakopmund operation, MultiChoice Namibia says it is able to contribute towards employment creation in the Erongo Region, including five staff members, 13 retailers, one agent and 14 accredited installers.
The upgrading of the MultiChoice Namibia premises in Swakopmund was attended last week by Juuso Kambueshe, Regional Councillor of the Swakopmund Constituency, Councillor Maria Elago, Deputy Mayor of Swakopmund, Milka Mungunda, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of MultiChoice Namibia, and Roger Gertze, General Manager of MultiChoice Namibia.
A number of regional and local authority councillors also attended the ceremony. MultiChoice’s GM, Roger Gertze, stated that their Swakopmund branch has been instrumental in making positive contributions to raise the Erongo Region’s profile, including the recent accolade for Hentiesbaai with Kwêla’s Dorp van die Jaar, Zing on KykNet; Big Brother contestant visits to Namibia; Fiesta and Egoli to name but a few. He also announced that a live broadcast of KykNET’s popular programme, Toks and Tjops, will take place at the Strand Hotel on September 2.
In terms of value-addition to the tourism industry, Gertze commented: “We believe that this branch contributes greatly, not only to single view subscribers, but also to the many hotels, tourist destinations and guesthouses. The DStv premium offering ensures that the service to the tourism industry in the region remains a solid contribution to economic investment. In addition, Swakopmund has become the destination of choice for many of MultiChoice Namibia and MultiChoice Africa’s agents and management conferences.”
In line with MultiChoice’s core social investment in education, a total of 15 schools in the Erongo Region benefited from the MultiChoice Resource Centre programme, through which each school received a flatscreen TV, DStv Explora, dish kit and access to the DStv educational bouquet.
To honour their purpose of enriching lives, MultiChoice Africa employees across the continent made personal monetary contributions to give back to the Swakopmund community, following a MultiChoice conference they attended in Swakopmund earlier this year. These contributions added up to N$ 10 000, which was handed over to Tears of Hope, a welfare organisation that offers a place of safety for vulnerable children.
