Civil servants using government resources in the Oshikoto Region have been cautioned to handle and use state assets with care, and maintain them as if they were their own personal property.

This stern warning was given by Oshikoto Governor Henock Kankoshi on Monday to staff members of the Ministry of Health and Social Services when he handed over four ambulances and a mobile outreach vehicle.

He lashed out at those that have a tendency of abusing government resources with impunity and urged them to desist from such ill-practices.

“Use these cars with caution and avoid irresponsible damage as compared to what others have done in the past – this must stop!” stressed an irate Kankoshi while handing over the keys to the respective drivers.

The vehicles will be distributed to Tsumeb, Oshivelo, Okankolo health centre and Omuthiya hospitals.

“We know that our region is inundated with numerous road accidents and other health related incidences, thus these vehicles are very important towards changing service delivery and providing health assistance timeliness,” stressed the governor, although he could not say how much the new ambulance fleet has cost government.

Kankoshi said he hoped the availability of an outreach vehicle would reduce the service delivery gap for those in  rural areas who are unable to access health services.
