The Kavango West Regional Council has signed a service delivery agreement to source electricity from Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) over the next three years. The power service delivery agreement was signed at Nkurenkuru on Monday.

Last year July Nored similarly signed service delivery agreements with Kunene, Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena and Zambezi regions in a move that will see Nored continue to supply electricity and conduct maintenance in those regions, but at the time both Kavango East and Kavango West could not sign.

At the time the then Kavango Regional Council chairperson, Bonny Wakudumo, informed New Era shortly after the signing ceremony that council wanted Nored to clarify certain issues.

The regional council had also wanted Nored to explain how the agreement was going to affect residents, including rural people at grassroots level.

“I’m quite happy today that we are signing the service delivery agreement, so that the two parties can share the benefits, as per the service delivery agreement. Together we have discussed the document and I think all the nitty-gritties are included in the agreement,” said the new chairperson of Kavango West Regional Council, Joseph Sivaku.

“Thank you very much for taking the responsibility to choose Nored. This agreement will put the two parties to task. The obligations of the two parties are highly articulated in this agreement. I thank you that going forward the two parties will work together for the betterment of our people, especially on issues of planning and coordination of activities,” said the CEO of Nored, Fillemon Nakashole.

“Kavango West Region is quite huge and we cannot reach all the corners of the region, that is why we will need your cooperation and together we can build this country in the spirit of Harambee,” he added.

Regional councils in Nored’s sphere of operations, as well as municipalities, share the dividends that they get from Nored as shareholders and share it with Nored on a 50/50 basis.
