Two Members of Parliament and the Governor of Khomas Region were on Thursday attacked and robbed at gunpoint, shortly after their arrival in South Africa. Khomas Governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua (pictured), Deputy Speaker Loide Kasingo and Swapo chief whip Eveline Nawases-Taeyele fortunately escaped the attack unharmed. McLeod-Katjirua on Friday confirmed to the press though that the armed robbers stole their clothes, phones and bankcards. The three politicians were on their way from OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday for a Pan-African parliamentary committee meeting that started on Friday when the attack occurred. McLeod-Katjirua reportedly confirmed that a delegate from Senegal was shot in the hip during the robbery near Sandton and was later admitted to hospital. The three Namibian stateswomen were due to participate in an eight-day meeting of the Pan-African parliamentary committee, but have since returned to Namibia.
