Windhoek
What started off as a Young Designer Fashion Show, initiated by young local designers a few years, ago has now become one of the yearly highlights on the country’s fashion calendar and the talk of many towns in the country.
Now in Season 7 since its inception, the organisers of the Designer Fashion Show have announced that the event will take place at the Nice Restaurant and Bar in Windhoek and promises dazzling and exciting. Hendrina Shikalepo of Leni Clothing Line (LCL) initiated the event, which is usually staged twice a year creating a platform for young and established designers to craft a niche for themselves in the fashion industry. “We understands that fashion designing is a form of self-expression, allowing designers to differentiate themselves. Although each piece is unique, all pieces share a connection to the Namibian culture,” says Shikalepo.
This time the event will cover a combination of themes on current trends yet with a touch of arts and culture. “The event is aimed to encourage upcoming designers to grow their brands locally and internationally, as well as to create or increase collaboration and elevate the fashion industry in Namibia,” she says. More than ten designers have been invited to participate in the show. Promising a glitzy and glamorous affair, it will be highlighted by a concert by different local music performers.
The Best Seasoned Designer will walk away with N$5,000 and the Best Newcomer Designer with the N$ 3,000, among other awards
