WINDHOEK  – A Standard Bank of Namibia employee who was sought by the Namibian Police Force on a charge of fraud in respect of the missing N$4 million from the bank was refused bail on Friday.

The 32-year-old Charles Winston Manale surrendered himself to the police on Thursday morning.

He was refused bail at his first appearance before magistrate Ilge Rheent in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.

Manale was thereafter remanded in police custody at the Windhoek police station until April 28, pending further police investigations into the matter.

Manale’s defence lawyer Kennedy Haraseb of Metcalfe Attorneys told the court that his client would bring a formal bail application before court in the next few days.

Public prosecutor Rowan van Wyk represented the State.

According to a summary of substantial facts contained in the charge sheet, Manale had been on the run since December 20 after the bank discovered N$4 million was missing.

Manale was working at Standard Bank Namibia’s Trust Account Division in Windhoek.- Nampa
