The South African government has finally started delivering on its long-awaited N$100 million pledge for Namibia’s drought relief, with the arrival of the first consignment of 20 metric tons of five-kilogramme bags of dried cowpeas worth N$386 000. South African President Jacob Zuma made the pledge after he visited Namibia in November 2013, after he was greeted by a severe drought that ravaged Namibia at the time. N$50 million of the donation will be channelled towards food and animal feed, while the other half will go towards the rehabilitation of boreholes.
