Home Crime and Courts Lawyer fined for speeding

Windhoek

A prominent lawyer was sentenced on Tuesday to pay a fine of N$400, or else spend 20 days in prison.
Profysen Muluti appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him for allegedly refusing to come to court. The warrant of arrest was issued on March 24 this year.

Court documents indicate that he drove faster than the maximum city limit of 60 km per hour. His rights were explained to him and he indicated he would conduct his own defence.

Muluti explained he did not receive the summons, as it was apparently not sent to him. “Maybe someone used my vehicle on that date and got a ticket in my name,” he added. Muluti said he did not intentionally avoid coming to court, “and I hereby apologise to the court.”

Magistrate Kaulikalelwa Nghishitende was satisfied with the explanation and the warrant of arrest was cancelled. Muluti then pleaded guilty and paid the fine.
