Lüderitz
Metropolitan and Swabou Life jointly sponsored this year’s Summer Cup to the tune of N$300 000.
The competition, since its inception in 2007, has attracted hundreds of athletes from as far as the four northern regions, namely, Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Omusati, as well as other regions.
Speaking at the handover of the sponsorship at the Lüderitz Nest Hotel, Metropolitan Momentum Investment (MMI) chief executive officer Jason Nandago said they were planning to expand the competition by adding two more regions, namely, //Kharas and Hardap.
According to Nandago, the companies have for the past seven years invested thousands to ensure the successful hosting of the Summer Cup.
The tournament targets junior secondary schools in the U/20 age category and has over the years proved a real deal in terms of unearthing raw talent that could be moulded into good academics and sport personalities.
Nandago stressed that the Metropolitan–Swabou brand is all about people and bringing change to the communities the companies operate in.
“Our key values of teamwork encourage us to partner with institutions such as the ministry of sport, as hosting a tournament of this magnitude cannot be achieved alone,” said Nandago.
