A 67-year-old woman from Ohangwena Region decided to walk all the way from Lüderitz to her home village last week, saying she is homesick.

A dehydrated Secilia Stefanus Mukalele, reported missing last week, was found two kilometres outside the southern coastal town, having embarked on her long trek to Ohangwena, more than 1,000 km to the north.

Mukalele, who was on vacation in the Lüderitz location of Nautilus, went missing on Wednesday last week and was found on Friday in the mountains near an effluent water treatment plant on the road to Agate Beach. She had been in Lüderitz for two months prior to her disappearance, her family said.

A clearly exhausted Mukalele said she was determined to walk all the way back to her house in Ohangwena Region if necessary.

The Lüderitz police had been looking for the pensioner for several days, after her daughter, Sofia Mweshipopya, who had invited her for a vacation at Lüderitz, reported her missing last week.
