President Hage Geingob welcomed the former Speaker of the National Assembly Theo Ben Gurirab (left) and the former president of the Rally for Democracy and Progress, Hidipo Hamutenya (right), to State House residence for dinner last night. The three were known as the ‘Swapo Trio’ during the period of the liberation struggle. Hamutenya said they never dreamt that one day they would be at State House. “It was a wonderful opportunity to be invited,” he said. “We came a long way and we never gave up.” President Geingob said they did not come to discuss politics, but to have dinner and talk as friends. “As I said before, the first guests to be invited to State House would be my old friends.” Gurirab said they were “a three-in-one team” and were entrusted with great responsibilities by the leadership of the party. “This is a continuation of our friendship. We remain friends and we are honoured to be the first guests at our house,” he said.
