An up-tempo, high-energy party under the banner ‘Friday Bash @ The Kalabar’, kicks off tonight and every Friday night onwards featuring different local artists courtesy of Ondjila Y’Ondjaba Concert Agency, in collaboration with the Hilton Hotel.
In astrology, Friday is coupled with the planet Venus. Freya, from whom the name of the day was derived, is the Goddess of love and fertility. Whilst some consider Friday a day of looming bad luck and dark forces, others start planting their potatoes on a Friday, as this is deemed to bring in a god harvest! In some cultures, Friday is the first day of the weekend (not Saturday)! Fact remains that, come Friday 17h00, energies climb, expectations of what is to come rise, the evenings become brighter and the weight of a hard week’s work disappears. That is where the Hilton Kalabar comes in. Live musicians are being selected to perform there on Fridays in accordance with their ability to create a party mood.
Performing this time around will be a relatively new face on the live entertainment scene: Doris Chandré Eiman. Born and raised in Mariental and singing in her school choir, she and the people around her first discovered the unique voice that is her own. Currently she is studying medicine in Windhoek. Doris offers a mix of her own repertoire, which builds on R&B, Reggae and soul and interprets popular music of to-day. She performs with a small combo around keyboardist, guitarist and music producer Danny Azangi. No entrance fees are charged.
