Three men who were arrested by the police’s drug unit for illegal possession of a huge consignment of Mandrax tablets in the Northern Industrial Area on Friday, were denied bail when they appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The three are Kazohua Reagan, 27, Nghimwatya Clemens, 26, and Johannes Matheus Ndinoiti, 36.

They face charges of dealing in dependence-producing drugs or substances.

The matter was remanded to August 17.  Magistrate George Mbundu presided. Anthony Wilson represented the State.

The police’s commanding officer for the Khomas Region, Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze told a media briefing on Sunday afternoon the three were arrested on the premises of Windhoek-based Epic Transport Company in the Northern Industrial Area at about 14h30.

The three men, who are all Namibians, had in their possession 4 912 Mandrax tablets with a street value of about N$294 720.

One of them is allegedly a truck driver of the transport company.

The trio was arrested with the help of members of the public who tipped off the police about the truck coming to Namibia from South Africa via Botswana.
