SWAKOPMUND – Namibia’s most prestigious entertainment event, the Namibian Music Awards (NAMAs), will this year again be hosted by the coastal town of Swakopmund.

The town outbade Ongwediva to host the glitzy event.

The announcement was made last Friday afternoon during a live broadcast show on NBC national television from Swakopmund.

The Governor of the Erongo Region, Cleophas Mutjavikua, the Mayor of Swakopmund, Juuso Kambueshe as well as the Mayor of Arandis, Daniel Muhuura, alongside various councillors, top business personalities in the region and journalists attended the live show.

The NAMAs will once again be held at the Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre, where the show will take place on May 1 and 2.
Speaking during the announcement, NAMAs executive chairman, Tim Ekandjo, said NAMAs is a national event that can be hosted in any town.

“We need to support each other, as this is the biggest event in which we honour our own artistes for their contributions towards the music industry,” Ekandjo said.

He explained that Swakopmund was once again chosen based on a number of criteria such as the availability of space to host the event, accommodation as well as the financial side and support towards the prestigious event.

Also speaking at the event, both governor Mutjavikua and mayor Kambueshe said this is just one of the many events lined up for the coastal town.

“The NAMAs’ return to Swakopmund not only shows that social side of what the town can offer but is [also] a clear indication that Swakopmund is ready to host international events as well,” said Kambueshe.
