If there is one thing I know about January, it is that it brings along New Year’s resolution. Some wants to work on their fitness, some vow to give more energy to their careers, others promise to quit smoking and drinking alcohol, and many more. But I also know that these resolutions are out through the window by February. As soon as people stop wishing each other a “Happy New Year” and all the festive lights around town are packed away, New Year’s resolutions too are packed away until the next January. Some people even opt not to make any resolutions at all.
But where did we go wrong? Why do we throw our resolutions out of the window or pack them away year after year? Well, personally I stopped making New Year’s resolutions a few years ago when I realised that I never begin working on them. Instead of make New Year’s resolutions, I make goals. Goals are much more than just wishful thinking, they are plans with a deadline and an outlined strategy on how to achieve them.
If you refer to your resolutions as goals instead, you take them series and plan on how to achieve them, you can make them a reality and would not have to make the same resolutions for the next five years.
So what are your goals for 2015? How do you plan on achieving them and when do you plan on achieving them? There is so much goodness that comes along with having goals in life. When you are sincere about your passion and what you want to achieve, it is much easier to make realistic and attainable goals. Having goals elevate your drive and gives you a sense of direction in your life. Human beings do not exist in a vacuum and things do not just happen to us, we make things happen. There are certain things that comes along with nature that we have limited control over such as natural disasters, illness, losing our beloved ones and accidents. Things happen but these should not hinder us from being great and what we have control over. Many people that we know around us or have learned through history have succeeded despite these, why can we not do the same? The year 2015 should be everyone’s breakout year, to do things bigger and better ( if you have not started already). Count this as another chance to start over and do things right this time. If you have failed your grade in 2014, 2015 is the year you make things right. Days are going, years passing and we are not growing any younger. The old we grow and the more responsible we shall become. The freedom that comes with growing up should not be a ticket to self-destruction but rather an opportunity to explore our potential and exercise our maximum abilities. I wish you guys a happy and blessed 2015.
