WINDHOEK – A 40-year-old suspect was arrested at Divundu last Friday for the alleged brutal rape of his seven-year-old stepdaughter.

The mother of the victim reportedly caught her husband redhanded defiling the minor at about 18h00 on Friday at Mutjiku in Kavango East.

He was arrested and due to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of rape.

A police sergeant stationed at Nkurenkuru border post was arrested after he allegedly raped his girlfriend and set her hut on fire, destroying all her personal belongings.

It is alleged the sergeant coerced the complainant to have sex with him and assaulted her after she refused to have sex with him at about 20h00 on Friday at Kakuro village in the Kahenge area.

He was expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday) on charges of rape, arson, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and assault by threat.

The police are looking for two suspects for the alleged gang-rape of a 39-year-old woman on Sunday at 04h00 on the Okakarara-Omupanda gravel road about 10 kilometres from Okakarara.

It is alleged the victim was on her way home when she was dragged into nearby bushes and brutally violated by the two suspects who took turns.

Both suspects are still at large and police investigations continue.

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Omitara near Gobabis on December 12 at about 20h00.

It is alleged the suspect who is known to the police forced the girl to a farm where he threatened her and repeatedly raped her.

It is further alleged the suspect then took the victim to his house.

According to the weekly crime report of the police the suspect jumped through a window after the police were informed and went to his house.

He is well known to the police and all efforts are being made to trace him.

Police are investigating a suicide in Rundu.

It is alleged 29-year-old Kautika Kristof Shetunyenga who was employed as a security guard at CIS Security in Rundu shot himself with his service shotgun at the Rundu Unam Campus at about 17h00 last Saturday.

No suicide note was left and the victim’s next of kin have been informed about the case.

Police at Rundu are also investigating a case of attempted murder after a 32-year-old suspect assaulted his girlfriend with fists all over her body until she collapsed at about 17h00 on December 12 at Tuhigireni location in Rundu.

The victim was admitted to the Rundu State Hospital and her condition is serious but stable.

The suspect was arrested and was due to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of attempted murder.
