WINDHOEK – A sergeant in the Namibian Police Force died last late last Thursday night at 23h45 from a gunshot injury that was allegedly self-inflicted.

According to the weekly crime report the officer who was not identified was at a bar in Wanaheda with some friends when something was said that seemed to offend him.

He then allegedly took out a pistol he had with him, but was disarmed by a friend.

The officer then went home and returned with another pistol and he demanded back the pistol that was taken from him.

He was then handed back his pistol, Sergeant Slogan Matheus said, and he walked away from the place where the argument ensued.

According to Matheus two gun shots were heard shortly after the officer left and he was found dead with his two pistols lying next to him.

One of the pistols was identified as a service pistol and the other as his private pistol.

Three people drowned over the weekend Matheus also informed the media.

He said 42-year-old Simon Alfred Ndaedelao drowned on Saturday, December 06 after he was dragged along by a strong water current at about 17h00 along the riverbed in Etetewe Street.

The body was found stuck to a wreck of an old motor vehicle in the riverbed.

It is suspected the deceased was dragged from Okahandja Park to where his body was found.

The next of kin was informed and police investigations continue.

An eight-year-old boy also drowned over the weekend.

It is stated in the crime review Angelo Gaseb went with friends to Goreangab Dam to swim on Friday, at about 14h45.

Gaseb swam into deep water, got stuck in the mud and drowned.

His next of kin is informed and police investigations continue.

A seventeen-year-old male drowned while swimming in a lake at Ongali village in the Ohangwena area at about 16h00 on Saturday, December 06, Matheus reported.

The deceased was identified as Joseph Joel and his next of kin was informed.

Police investigations continue.

A case of armed robbery was reported at Ondangwa.

It is alleged six male suspects broke into the home of the victim, held him at gunpoint and stole cash of N$11 400, a 9mm pistol, a shotgun, a LG TV, five cellphones and a HP laptop all valued at N$48 890.

The incident happened at about 01h25 at Akuna village in the Ondangwa area on Saturday, December 06.
Nothing has been recovered so far and no arrests were made. Police investigations continue.
