WINDHOEK– Namibian artist Kirsten Wechslberger is inviting all children between six and 18 years to take part in the Kids Art Holiday Workshop.
The workshop was initiated a year ago by Wechslberger to allow children put together their innovative and creative skills and ideas that they can take back home. “I saw a need for children to express themselves and have fun until their parents were off from work. I am a professional artist myself and wish there had been such programmes around when I was still in school. Primarily joining the workshop will be loads of fun but also educational as they will be learning different techniques and mediums depending on which workshop they will participate in,” says Wechslberger.
Wechslberger adds that the workshop has been divided into two sessions from Monday (December 8) to Friday ( December 12) and children may choose to attend one or both. The first session starts at 09h00 to 10h30 and children will be building their own colorful mosaic in any shape they like. The second session will start from 10h30 to 12h00 whereby children will explore different fun printing techniques. “Children will have the opportunity to learn and play in a safe environment. If the kids choose one or both workshops, they will learn about different printing techniques or/and how to create their own colorful mosaic as well as fun printmaking techniques including Yarn printing, Leaf printing, Styrofoam printing, Muffin tin printing and Bubble wrap printing,” she says.
The cost per workshop is N$500 and for both workshops N$1000. Booking and half of the payment must be made in advance by today as materials need to be sourced in time. Full payment is required upon commencement of the workshops. Children will have short breaks during the workshops and are encouraged to take along some snacks and drinks.
