WINDHOEK – Brave United and United Girls took top honours in the highly competitive Kasi Cup Tournament after winning the football and netball categories of the informal settlement cup at the Havana Sports Field over the weekend.

In the football division, Brave United trounced hot favourites Havana City 2-1 to win the third edition of the Kasi Cup and walked away with a handsome N$9 000, while runner-up Havana City took home N$7 000. Third-placed Hakahana United pocketed a cool N$5 000 for their troubles, while fouth-placed Akaduku FC received a consolation N$3 000.

In the netball division, United Girls walked away with N$6 000 after beating Windhoek Beauties in the final. Beauties pocketed N$4 000 for their efforts, while third-placed Eleven Bullets took home N$3 000 and City Stars managed to finish fourth to pocket N$2 000.

The tournament included the top eight football teams and top six netball teams plying their trade in the Samora Machel Informal Sports League.

League chairman, Bomma Kandjabanga, expressed satisfaction with the improved standard of play by the teams, saying the teams are very motivated and eager to improve every year. “I have to thank Coca Cola, Windhoek Municipality and OTB Sports for their support. They have brought hope and development to our league; we will work hard to improve on various aspects of the tournament every year.”

“Our league is now getting stronger and stronger every year because teams are motivated and want to finish in the top-eight so that they can qualify for the Kasi Cup. So, it’s really a great initiative from our three sponsors. Thank you very much,” said a delighted Kandjabanga.
