WINDHOEK– The new culinary attraction in town, Embaixador Restaurant, caters for authentic Portuguese meals. So if you are looking to have genuine, flavoursome healthy meals this new spot will not fail your taste buds.
Striding into the stylish restaurant, I could not help but grab hold of the aroma coming from the buffet that was on offer. Yes this time, I decided to go the buffet simply because of the various meal options at hand. One thing to keep in mind when taking on a buffet menu is to loosen up your belt and bon appetite! I started off with grilled fish that was deliciously juicy and had a savoury after taste; gobbling the fish, I got the flavours of garlic and parsley-it was a sumptuous meal, this dish goes well with a garden salad and French fries.
With so many food options, I decide to pick grilled ribs with vegetables, rice and “caldo verde” – a Portuguese green broth made up of potatoes, kale/spinach, olive oil and salt, garlic or onion. This meal was very filling I definitely did not have room for any other meals, except for dessert of course. For dessert I had the “black forest cake”, just what the doctor ordered, it was fluffy with a surprisingly delicate taste to it. A must try! The buffet menu had servings of food choices ranging from bacalhau (Portuguese for cod fish) and other various fish, feijoada (a stew of beans with beef and pork), chouriço (pork sausage), leafy greens to grilled pork and beef steaks.
The buffet menu is available everyday from mid-day three O’clock in the afternoon and there are no fixed prices for the buffet menu but on Sundays the eatery charges about N$ 95 upwards depending on the choice of food you have with fish being the most expensive. The restaurant also has a Á la carte menu.
With an all female waitresses, the staffers are welcoming and carry a smile on their faces, they checked and cleared my table at appropriate times. The eatery also caters for functions of 30 people. The Embaixador Restaurant is situated in 183 Jan Jonker Road, Ausspannplatz. It is also available in Swakopmund!
