WINDHOEK – The informal settlement of Havana will be a hive of activity this weekend when the much-anticipated 3rd edition of the popular Kasi Tournament gets underway at the Havana Sports Field (08h00).
The City of Windhoek, Coca Cola and OTB Sports yesterday reaffirmed their commitment towards the development of the competition when they officially handed over the teams playing gear and a sponsorship of N$60 000 for this year’s activities.
The Havana Sports Field is holed up between Greenwell Matongo, Wanaheda and Havana informal settlements.
For the first time since the event was inaugurated, Netball has been introduced and will feature this weekend.
The tournament includes the top eight football teams and top six netball-playing teams on the Informal Settlement Sports League.
As for this weekend, winners in the football division will walk away with a handsome amount of N$9 000 while the 2nd and 3rd place finishers are guaranteed N$7 000 and N$5 000 each. The 4th placed team will take N$3 000.
Meanwhile, winners of the netball division will get N$6 000 and the 2nd and 3rd finishers will walk away with N$4 000 and N$3 000 each.
Fourth place finishers will pocket a consolation cash prize of N$2 000.00.
The netball teams have been divided into two groups, A and B, and will thus play in a round-robin system with the top finishers from each group facing each other for top honours.
