WALVIS BAY – The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region are currently looking for a key witness in the high-profile rape and human trafficking case that was last week postponed in the Windhoek High Court to January next year.
The key witness, 21-year-old Zambian national Alice Kalumba needs to give her testimony in the events between April and June 2012 that led to the arrest of another Zambian citizen Gwen Nelwembe and Johanna Lukas who has since given birth while in prison.
The two allegedly sold minor girls from Swakopmund for sex to a South African citizen who fled the country shortly after the duo was arrested.
According to the police at Walvis Bay, Kalumba who was last seen residing in Swakopmund has moved and her whereabouts are unknown.
Kalumba’s testimony is very important for the case as it was remanded by Judge President Petrus Damaseb to allow the State to call other expert witness from South Africa.
The duo face various charges including trafficking in persons, rape, soliciting or enticing a minor to the commission of a sexual or an indecent or immoral act and rape on diverse occasions.
Lukas faces 11 counts and Nelwembe two counts.
