Home National Unionist busted for soliciting bribe

WINDHOEK- Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) late last week nailed Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) branch organiser, Moses Veiko, 31, for allegely soliciting a bribe of N$7 000.

The suspect reportedly solicited the bribe of N$7 000 from Schweizerhaus Café, whose workers Veikko was representing so that he could apparently convince the workers to accept a reduced wage increase of 8 percent instead of the 8.5 percent demanded by workers.

Veiko requested that the alleged bribe be paid to him via a cash cheque.

He was subsequently arrested after accepting such cheque on charges of C/S 33 of the Anti-Corruption Act, Act No. 8 of 2003 (Offence of corruptly accepting gratification) after the ACC was alerted to his shenanigans.

He appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrates Court last week on Thursday and he was released on bail of N$ 5 000. The case was remanded to the February 11, 2015 for further investigations.
