WINDHOEK – Following last year’s successful event, Paralympics Namibia (PN) is again set to host another bumper edition of its annual National Paralympics Championship at the Windhoek Independence Stadium, end of this month.
The event is expected to feature the country’s top Para athletes such as World Championship gold medalist Johannes Nambala, Lahja Ishitile, Johanna Katjikuru and Ananias Shikongo, amongst other stars, while a crop of upcoming Para athletes from cross all regions is expected to showcase their talent at the event.
Last year, the event attracted more than 150 athletes but organisers have this year decided to reduce the number of participants to about 100, in order to provide more competition for the upcoming athletes.
The reduction in the number of participants is also aimed at giving scouts enough room to scout top athletes to represent Namibia at upcoming international events, such as the 2016 Olympics and the 2015 World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Event organisers oozed confidence, saying they expect the athletes to perform well while also striving to improve their times.
