Wilro Dippenaar and navigator Riaan van der Westhuizen won their their second consecutive event this rally season, when they thundered into first place during the week-end’s Cymot Rally held in and around Windhoek.
Driving a high-tech Toyota Run-X S2000 4×4, the crack rally team finished just two seconds ahead of the pack. Hot on their heels in second place was Dick Cornelissen and Melvin Gous driving a Subaru N12 4×4 turbo which relentlessly held its own in the front.
Third podium place went taken by Willie Dames and Leon Gous driving a Toyota Auris S2000, which is becoming a force to be reckoned with on the rally scene after the two teamed up.
Fourth place was taken by Riaan van Rensberg and Michael van Zyl in their Dakar Spec Ford bakkie. Whilst the fight for fifth place, saw Hannes Arangies and Aisha Franz finishing in their Toyota Corolla 1.6.
The Cymot Rally was held for the third consecutive year, courtesy of a generous sponsorship of N$100 000. A total of 17 entries took part in the second last championship event for the year, with 12 vehicles making it to the end.
There were some serious mishaps, with even two cars rolling dramatically, which prevented from finishing the event. The remaining ‘did not finish’ vehicles suffered engine problems due to the gruelling pace and limped out with serious technical troubles.
The event was hosted by the Windhoek Motor Club, who is also gearing up for the final championship event, the upcoming Total Tara Rally which is being staged in November.
