Ann Singer, simply striking!

Home Time Out Ann Singer, simply striking!

WINDHOEK– If you haven’t yet heard of Annastasia Linus AKA Ann Singer, then you have so much to catch up on.

Even though this mysterious singer might not be a household name in the local music scene as yet, this 22 year old represents a refreshing change from the usual female cast. Ann’s musical career started in 2007 when she met local R&B singer Bertholdt, who trained, mentored and coached her to become a good singer. “I was not sure whether I was ready for music because I had so much on my plate but I’m now focused. I love music and I don’t want to do it for money. I want to remain humble,” she says.

The Windhoek-bred singer turned heads with collaborations with Kwaito artists such as Mushe on songs like Number 1, Remember me and Yesterday, Waka on the song Omwa and many others. One cannot only say that Ann is blessed with a gorgeously smooth voice, there is  also just something very real, earthly and endearing about her which I find quite bracing. Ann recently performed cover songs like Moment like this by Leona Lewis and Broken hearted girl by Beyoncé at the Song Night and left everyone breathless. With only two recorded singles to her name, Ann says she is not in a hurry to release an album because she aims for quality. “I don’t want to record just because I want to be out there, I want quality. I’m still trying to find what kind of music I want to do. I want to do what I love and not what other people expect from me,” says Ann.

Favourable comparisons have been made to legends like, Brandy and Jennifer Hudson whilst she believes she still has a long way to go to reach that level of greatness. Ann says her lyrics are based on obstacles she faced, life and inspiration. “I’m a very emotional person, I’ve been through a lot but I don’t regret anything. I write according to my mood, my experiences and surrounding. I’m very much grateful that I have Bertholdt by my side. He is my inspiration and I wouldn’t have done this without him,”Ann appreciates.

She is currently taking piano lessons with the College of the Arts as she plans on adding essence to her future live performances with an instrument. What really sets Ann apart from other local singers is her modern take on the RnB, and the fact that there is enough individuality, honesty and emotion in her vocals to make her stand out. If she delivers on the early promise of her singles, then she definitely has a promising career ahead of her.
