RUNDU – The All People’s Party (APP) youth wings in Kavango West and East regions last weekend held a conference to elect youth leaders in both regions.

The conference was held in Rundu on Friday and attended by the party’s senior leadership, including its president Ignatius Shixwameni.

The former Kavango Region was divided last year into two regions – Kavango East and Kavango West –, hence APP’s move to install youth leaders in both regions.

“Previously it was a lot of work for me as the youth league chairperson for Kavango Region. I used to run from Mukwe to Mpungu constituency and it was too much work as the region was too big but now it’s demarcated and thus we needed to elect separate leaderships,” said Marcelius Haivera, former youth league chairperson for Kavango Region, who has now been elected as Kavango East regional chairperson.

The Kavango East APP youth league now has Marcelius Haivera as chairperson, Kaveto Annastassia as vice-chairperson, Katrina Linyando as secretary, Shiputa Fredrick as vice-secretary, John Katongo as treasurer, Maria Sabina as deputy treasurer and Aivera Martha was elected the regional mobilizer.

For Kavango West, the chairperson is Peter Mutuku with Anna Dikitira the vice-chairperson. Kayambu Maria is the secretary with Paulus Kandjimi the vice-secretary, while Namadiko Verna was elected the treasurer, Muronga Justinus the deputy treasurer and Muronga Cecilia the regional mobilizer.

Haivera said they will have to mobilize the youth better and more effectively. “We want to encourage the youth not only to sing the unemployment song but want to encourage them that being employed in the government is not the solution but to come up with innovative ideas to start their own businesses to provide employment to others.”
