Stitches of laughter await Kalabar patrons tonight

Home Time Out Stitches of laughter await Kalabar patrons tonight

WINDHOEK- Tonight, the stage of the Hilton Hotel’s Kalabar is set for Comedy.

Comedy In The House – is the slogan that rules the Kalabar every last Friday of the month. Selected from amongst leading stand-up artists in Namibia, this month’s ‘funny characters’ characters hit the stage at exactly half-past-eight (20h15) tonight and the show, interspersed with music, stretches over 60 minutes and promises  the ideal break to prepare anyone’s long Friday evening’s party.

A lady who goes by the stage name Weezil, sets the stage. Weezil often catches the spectator off-hand, with a frankness that can be quite rigorous and her ability to improvise at split second notice. This contrasts exquisitely with her appearance as the ‘nice girl’  next door. No wonder, she has studied acting under the guidance of two leading female theatre activists in Namibia, Tanya Terblanche and Laurinda Olivier Samson.

She is followed by Fernando Das Piadas – a young stand-up artist of Angolan origin, who believes that comedy knows no barriers. He gets Namibians laughing (since he joined the Free Your Mind team) like he does his Angolan audiences, when performing at home. Fernando is a student of financial management at the IUM. His ‘biggest break’ so far was his appearance as comedian at the Heart Van Windhoek Festival in 2013. Word is on the streets that he has been invited to Salvador Bahia (Brazil) to perform at a comedy festival organised by the Comedy Central television station on September 6.

Closing off the evening will be Slick who needs no further introduction amongst comedy revelers. He is somewhat of a Godfather of comedy in Namibia and many a young stand-up talent has been nurtured through his guidance as one of the leading partners in Free Your Mind. He has been involved in over 70 comedies, theatre shows as actor and director.

Comedy in the House is designed to be more than just a show. It is the celebration of an art form that is at the same time entertaining and thought provoking. It is a party for those who are and remain free at mind. The Kalabar offers specials each night and compliments food for the mind and soul with food for the body – fresh and tasty from its in-house and sushi menus. Artists mingle with audiences after the performance and the comedians, their colleagues, who come to ‘check them out’ and the patrons, all become a big funny family.

Comedy in the House is collaboration between Free You Mind and Ondjila Y’Ondjaba concert agency at the Hilton. Entrance is Free.
