WINDHOEK– First in the act was Dixon, who warmed up the stage for one of Namibian musical divas, the Namibia Annual Music Awards(NAMAs) female artist of the year and Afro-Jazz diva, Erna Chimu.
Dixon’s performance could just as well have been the act of the main act of the night as he entertained the crowd endearing himself to it especially when the performance of the song Namsaro. But there was no mistaking that Dixon was living on borrowed time and when Erna jumped onto stage she did so with her energetic voice and performed up to 14 old and new songs. Telewaniba , //Ae tama ta hâ, Sore te re, Daniba samre are some of the songs that received applauds with the revellers unstoppable in their screaming. But this was only taste of more things to come as the show shift into a higher and more entertaining gear with songs such as /Gaib ase , Hai serute, Bayake and Kudingani. And both revellers and fans alike could not but join in and dancing non-stop.
To wind up the performance, Erna performed cover songs by local and international artists such as Thul’l umamele by Judith Sephuma, Weekend Special by the late Brenda Fasie , Loliwe by Sahara, Wind of Change by late Jackson Kaujeua and Pata Pata medley by Miriam Makeba. Erna says she had fun on stage with her band. “The audience was very supportive and participating, singing and dancing along to the songs. There was an unexpected high profile audience that I didn’t anticipate,” she concludes.
