WINDHOEK – Its back to the drawing board again for Namibia’s former bantamweight world champion Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda, who was initially set to challenge British boxer Scott Quigg for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Bantamweight world title.
After suffering a hamstring injury that left Ambunda with no option but to ask his British counterparts to postpone their 13 September fight to later date, the Namibian has now been left with no opponent after Quigg declined to postponed the fight and rather secured a new opponent, Stephane Jamoye of Belgium.
WBA Super Bantamweight world champion, Quigg on Tuesday officially announced that he will now be making his fourth title defense against Jamoye, in Manchester, UK on 13 September. Ambunda suffered the hamstring injury during a training session.
Promoter Nestor Tobias confirmed that the fight has officially been cancelled, saying they will now focus on Ambunda’s recovery and hopefully explore other options going forward. “The fight is officially off, we now have to go back to the drawing board and look at other options. Ambunda’s record speaks for itself, so it’s just a matter of making a full recovery and then he will be back in full action,” says Tobias.
