WINDHOEK – On the eve of the September Kopenhagen Fur Auction in Copenhagen, two international fur designers and a Danish furrier visited Windhoek last week after the Karakul (Swakara) Board of Namibia tasked them to design the 2015 Swakara promotional fashion collection.

Men’s wear designers, Kjetil Aas, women’s wear designer Tilde Bay Kristofferson and creative furrier from Kopenhagen Fur Studio, Sophie Erichsen, shared their experiences in a workshop with Namibian designers  last week Thursday. Namibia’s famous Swakara pelts – a fresh collection of 50 000 pelts consisting of black, white, spotted, grey and coloured – will leave Windhoek tomorrow for the second Kopenhagen Fur Auction of 2014. These pelts will be auctioned on September 9, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Swakara  Board, under the chairmanship of Raimar von Hase, viewed the pelt collection on offer for the upcoming auction under the watchful eyes of master pelts sorter Jeremy Duffield-Harding. Duffield-Harding explained that the consignment is made up of some 159 different grades of pelts which consist of mainly black, white and grey pelts. Erichsen demonstrated her latest techniques as creative furrier while the two designers showed their craftsmanship and skills in both men’s and women’s wear for 2015.
