WINDHOEK– Jazz-Etcetera at the Hilton Kalabar, a regular live music show taking place every Thursday from 19h – 21h30, has been injected with some ‘fresh blood’.
From last night it starter featuring The Boiler Room Jazz Trio until next Thursday with Jaques Mushaandja and The Warrior Chants. The Boiler Room Jazz Trio emanates from a regular ‘gig’ at the popular music venue by three music lecturers, namely Jan Willem Beuke and Lebo Motabeng (College Of The Arts) and Ole Sand, who is a freelance music teacher and performer. Jan is a jazz guitarist and vocalist, Ole a bassist, acoustic guitarist and vocalist and Lebo plays drums & percussion. Expect vocal and instrumental Jazz standards of the finest. “The Warrior” aka Jacques Mushaandja originally comes from a theatre background – he studied and attained a master in drama (acting and directing) each at the University of Namibia (Unam) and at the Wits University in Johannesburg. He performs original songs – some from his EP ‘Black Bantu Child’, released in 2012 – and the music style one could describe as Afro-Jazz, Afro-Chant and Afro-Beat. Henry Engelbrecht accompanies him on acoustic guitar and Antonio on percussion.
From this Sunday until next Tuesday , that is August 17 -19, prior to the performance next Thursday, the Kalabar is in ‘happy hour’ mode – with one free glass of wine or beer offered on a complimentary basis for each corresponding drink purchased. The show starts at 19h and live music continues until 21h30. Entrance is free.
