LUDERITZ – The Luderitz Congregational Church last Saturday hosted a successful 2nd edition of its Soccer Trophy tournament, at the habour town of Luderitz.
Since its inception in 2010, the Congregational Church has been the headline sponsor of the popular tourney and its aimed at promoting a culture of sports, particularly football within the town’s youth.
As for this year, the church channelled a handsome amount of N$10 000 to ensure smooth organisation and also catered for the team’s prize monies. The tourney, which attracted more than 11 football teams from within the area, was won by Rush–up Football Club (FC) who took home N$2500 00 in prize monies and 20 gold medals.
Runners-up Atlanta Bucks walked away with N$1500 00, while 3rd placed Chisanyama-11 had to be satisfied with consolation N$1000 00.
Church representative, Jacobus Gewers, said after the first edition in 2010, the tournament was not held due to small issues but he promised that the church will work hard to ensure it becomes an annual event.
