WINDHOEK – It never comes out better than that and boxing enthusiasts could not have asked for a better boxing fiesta than the upcoming weekend’s bonanza with mouth-watering title bouts on the menu.
Two of the country’s finest bantamweight boxers will trade leather in what can be easily described as potentially the best bout between local boxers in a very long time.
Champion Imms ‘Prince’ Naidjala puts his precious World Boxing Organization (WBO) Africa bantamweight belt at stake against the equally dangerous Joseph ‘Smokey Joe’ Hilongwa, in the main bout of the ‘10 Bouts No Mercy Part Three Boxing Bonanza’ at the Windhoek Country Club on Saturday.
The two boxers, who both hail from the same village in the Okalongo area in the Omusati Region, go into the fight with impressive resumes.
Naidjala won 18 of his fights with one defeat and one draw out of 20 bouts since joining the paid ranks, while his challenger boasts a remarkable record of 13 victories and one technical draw (TD) from 13 fights.
In the main under card, Samuel Kapapu confronts incumbent WBO Africa lightweight champion Martin Haikali for the title over 12 rounds.
Undefeated WBO Africa champion, Julius ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo, should have little trouble retaining his belt when he climbs into the ring to trade leather with Takudzwa Kuchocha from Zimbabwe.
Abmerk Shindjuu defends his WBO Africa lightweight title against the unbeaten Japhet ‘Thin Man’ Utoni, in an all-Namibian affair.
In other under card bouts, Kennedy Kamati will be up against Eriki Kalenga in a non-title lightweight four-round swinger, with debutant Nathaniel Kakololo facing Dominicus Weulu in the junior lightweight division bout over four rounds while Jeremiah Nakathila trades punches with Zambian opponent Richard Muriri in a junior lightweight six-rounder.
Sakaria ‘Desert Storm’ Lucas will be out to wrestle the national featherweight title from champion Tommy ‘Showman’ Nakashimba, when the two boxers come up against each other in what promises to be another exciting affair.
In the super bantamweight division, Nathaniel Kamati will face Noah Nthai from South Africa, with Steven Shimbonde opening the boxing bonanza with an exhibition bout against Simon Shafodino in a non-title welterweight four-rounder.
Entrance fee is N$200 per person and N$10 000 per table seating 10 people.
